Hridi:

Hello, everyone. Welcome to Hannah and Hridi Talk Film. I'm Hridi.

Hannah:

And I'm Hannah.

Hridi:

And we are so excited to welcome you guys to our first ever episode. This segment is gonna be all about reviewing movies, and the first movie that we have that we're gonna be talking about is Good Will Hunting.

Trailer:

Meet Will Hunting. I've been looking over this rap sheet of yours. Assault, theft, resisting. I've spoken to the judge and has agreed to release you, not to buy supervision. Really?

Trailer:

You have to meet with a therapist every week. That's pretty good.

Hridi:

We picked this movie because it comes highly rated. I personally know a lot of people who kinda put this movie in the top 5 or 10 of their movie lists. It's definitely a classic and it also takes place in the fall. And as we're kinda transitioning seasons, we're going into the fall season, definitely one of my favorite fall movies. So now I'm gonna hand it off to Hannah.

Hannah:

Yeah. Okay. So to get us kinda on the same page, we've got a little synopsis of the film written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and directed by Gus Van Sant. Good Will Hunting follows Will Hunting played by Matt Damon, a janitor at MIT who has a gift for mathematics but needs help from a psychologist played by Robin Williams to find direction in his life.

Hridi:

Yes. So speaking of direction, Hannah, did anybody kind of, like, direct you to this movie? Or how did you hear about this movie?

Hannah:

Yeah. So my parents saw it, like, when it came out. Like, it was a movie that they kinda grew up with and, I had really liked Matt Damon's work in the oceans franchise. And so when I saw this movie, I kinda wanted to see, you know, him take on this role that I hadn't personally seen him in before and just kinda see how he handled something a little bit more emotional and deep than robbing casinos.

Hridi:

Yeah. That's so cool. Well, how do how do you think he did?

Hannah:

No. I loved it, you know. I think that first watch is really special and just getting to connect to these characters. I think Robin Williams, it was one of his best performances in my opinion. I think that he just did a great job and it still resonates me to this day.

Hannah:

I still think about some of the lines and just about it and I love to rewatch it every fall, you know, like we were talking about, it kinda get you in the mood. Yeah.

Hridi:

So my uncle actually recommended, this movie to me and I watched it with him. We kind of he kinda has this list for me of, classic movies that I should watch and I remember he was talking very highly about it. And after I watched it, I was just like, wow. Like, this movie is amazing. Yeah.

Hridi:

And, I also when I saw that Ben Affleck was in the movie, I was like, oh, wow. Like, I'm kinda curious how he you know, about his range because I had only, at that point, really only seen him in, DC movies and, like Batman. Yeah. Batman.

Hannah:

Like, Batman or movie? Yeah.

Hridi:

I am Batman. So, yeah, I definitely, it was definitely really cool to see Ben Affleck's range in the movie, and I think he did a really good job, with his character in Good Will Hunting. No. Yeah. For sure.

Hannah:

As we're talking about like our favorite parts and stuff, I was thinking maybe we could do like our Letterbox score. So for those of you who don't know, letterbox is basically an app where you can like review and rate movies. It's super cool. I would highly recommend if you like like movies at all. So yeah, so what, what did you, so there's a 5 star ranking score.

Hannah:

So what what did you give it?

Hridi:

Yeah. So I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars and I also hearted the movie. Yeah, this is just such a great movie, such a cinematic classic and I think especially for people our age and, like, young adults, it just teaches you so many influential lessons and it's portrayed by such talented act actors and I definitely still think about the movie a lot. Like you said, it definitely still resonates with me. Yeah.

Hridi:

What would you what would you put for your review, Hannah?

Hannah:

Yeah. Okay. So I also gave Good Will Hunting a 4 out of 5 stars. I think that it just does a great job representing a character that kinda has a hard time expressing or dealing with emotions and Especially with kind of this newer, younger audience that's, like, getting reintroduced to this movie and they may share some of those same struggles. I just think that everyone did a phenomenal job, in the film of working through that and tackling these kind of harder parts of life where you kind of don't know what you're supposed to do or who to listen to and it just shows how important it is to work through those things and take risks and to go after what you love.

Hannah:

Okay, so my favorite part of letterbox is the reviews. So

Hridi:

oh my gosh, yes,

Hannah:

did you, did you find a funny review? I did.

Hridi:

I did. I found a really, really funny review. So it's by a user, at Mima and she said, good luck finding a therapist this good.

Hannah:

That's good. Okay. I found one from the user tamore and they just said matt Damon and I was like rolling on the floor. I love

Hridi:

a good pun.

Hannah:

I love a pun. Okay. So those, that's my favorite part of Letterbox. I wanna know your favorite part of the movie.

Hridi:

My favorite part of the movie, it's gotta be the most classic line known throughout. Definitely when Will goes up to Clark, the guy from Harvard at the bar, and it was right after he got Skyler's number and he, like, taps on the glass window and he's like, do you like apples? And then Clark is like, yeah. And then he goes, well, I got her number. How do you like them apples?

Hridi:

Just such a funny line, such a funny scene. And, like, I before seeing this movie, I had seen that line, you know, circulate online and stuff. And I was always curious as to, you know, where it came from, what was the context, and I just thought it was so funny, like such a classic line.

Hannah:

Love it. Okay. My favorite part was when Robin Williams has his like big monologue about game 6 of the 1975 World Series. You know, they're both both Boston guys and the Red Sox were playing in that, so, like, Will's Will was really invested in it and he was like so excited about it. He was like, I can't believe you were there.

Hannah:

All for doctor Maguire, who Robert Merlin was placed just to be like, yeah, I, like, actually wasn't there. I was sitting in a bar talking to my future wife and that was just like, I thought it was so funny, but also, like, so romantic and so cool and then it kinda leads into one of my favorite parts at the end, so spoiler alert if you haven't seen it, but basically, Will writes this letter that he's going off to go see about a girl, which is what Doctor. Maguire had sent to him, back talking about the world series. And Doctor. Maguire just goes, son of a beast stole my line.

Hannah:

And, I thought that was pretty funny. And then a cool fact that I found, I read this article about it, apparently the chairs in his office as he's doing this monologue are actually laid out to look like a baseball diamond. So as he tells a story, he's like going in a circle and he's surrounding the bases. No way. So I thought that's pretty cool.

Hannah:

Some of you know who loves baseball and movies. The little little Easter egg is always pretty fun.

Hridi:

That is such a fun little tidbit. Well, something that I, know is that that whole scene, when doctor Maguire is telling Will about his wife and how she kept farting, apparently, Matt Damon's laugh was, like, actually super genuine and he couldn't stop laughing.

Hannah:

No way.

Hridi:

And I definitely remember me watching that movie. I could not stop laughing. I think I was in tears.

Hannah:

Me too. So funny. So funny. Alright, guys. The credits are starting to roll.

Hannah:

We just wanna say thank you for listening. We hope you enjoyed tuning in. We'll see you next time and until then, go see about that girl.
